Project Day Thursday 5th March
March we are making slippers. Pattern details and requirements will be email upon registration.
Project days are back on the calendar and we’re kicking off the year with a gorgeous, very useful project: oven mitts — but not just any oven mitts. Ours feature the faces of cats, owls, and dogs to add a special touch to your kitchen.
This sewing-friendly project is a fun way to start the year and a great opportunity to enhance your skills. You’ll learn:
Appliqué techniques for creating animal faces with character and clean edges
Quilting or adding batting for heat protection and texture
Embellishment methods (embroidery, decorative stitching, and simple details like whiskers or beaks)
Attaching binding for a neat, durable finish around the mitt edges
What you’ll need (basic list)
Cotton fabric for outer and lining layers (heat-resistant cotton recommended)
Insulating batting or thermal lining
Assorted fabrics for appliqué pieces
Fusible web or applique adhesive
Matching thread and embroidery floss for details
Binding tape or fabric for binding
Sewing machine with a zipper/embroidery foot (optional) and basic sewing supplies (scissors, pins, rotary cutter, ruler, iron)
Why this project is great
Practical: You get oven mitts you’ll use daily.
Skill-building: Combines appliqué, quilting, embellishment, and binding in one project.
Creative: Choose your favorite animal faces, colors, and details to personalize each mitt.
Suitable for many levels: Templates and step-by-step guidance make this approachable for beginners while offering embellishment options for more experienced sewists.
Join us to stitch, learn, and make something delightful and useful for your kitchen. What animal will you make first: cat, owl, or dog?
Class Details
Time: Each class will run from 9.30 AM to 2:30 PM.
Requirements: A comprehensive list of materials will be provided upon registration.
Join us for an engaging and productive sewing experience!
